Southwest Key Partners with KABOOM! For New Playground

Playgrounds and public parks are an essential part of childhood recreation. Throughout the nation, parents and children visit their local parks so kids can safely run, climb, slide, swing and tire themselves out until it’s time to head home.

But did you know there’s a sharp divide between families who have access to a public playground and families that don’t? That’s where KABOOM! comes in.

KABOOM! is a nonprofit dedicated to “building kid-designed playspaces that can spark joy and foster a sense of belonging for the kids who are often denied opportunities to thrive.” And every playspace they build brings us one step closer to ending playspace inequity for good.

Southwest Key was fortunate to sponsor the creation of a new KABOOM! playground at Monte Bella Park in Brownsville, Texas so more families in the community can have access to quality playspaces for their children.

On the day of the event, two of our employees from the Performance and Quality Improvement team were on site to hand out water and snacks. A big shout-out to Sergio and JC for providing refreshments and support to everyone helping with construction! They provided 300 water bottles and 300 individual snacks on the big day.

This isn’t the first time we’ve partnered with KABOOM!. The playground at our national headquarters in Austin, Texas, was also made possible thanks to KABOOM! With multiple schools nearby, there’s always an opportunity for kids and families to enjoy some sunshine and energetic playtime.

KABOOM! has been a fantastic partner and we look forward to the next opportunity we have to sponsor a new playspace — so we can bring ourselves one step closer to ending playspace inequity.
