Cultural Arts: Fandango De Los Muertos in Austin

Southwest Key Programs proudly supported the Annual “Fandango De Los Muertos” theater production as a sponsor for the 3rd year . This interactive event brings the community together to take part in the authentic traditions of the Day of the Dead, a Mexican holiday. The event is produced by Proyecto Teatro, Austin’s only all-Spanish speaking theater production company. Supporting cultural arts is a focus area for Southwest Key. The diverse cultures of our staff and those we serve makes us stronger and the arts help us to learn more about each other.

This year’s event included traditional indigenous customs honoring the deceased which include prayer, marigold flowers, lit candles and alters.  The event included theater, opera, and dance performances from artists in Austin such as Ballet East Dance Company, Jennifer Ramos, Daniela Holloway, and Ensemble En Construction.

Southwest Key and Proyecto Teatro have collaborated on numerous events, classes, workshops, and productions all free to the community for the past 11 years.
