Melissa Garcia (She/Ella) is a Bordertown First Generation Tex-Mex with expertise in advocacy, partnerships, and capacity building. Currently, Melissa is contributing to the building of Latino power by serving as the Partnerships Manager at Equis. Melissa leads the partnerships work with state-based partners, developing partner materials and providing strategic support. Melissa holds a B.A. in Psychology from The University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley and is currently enrolled in graduate studies pursuing a Master of Science in Social Work (MSSW). Melissa has led various projects with institutions, such as the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, the Nevada Legislative Latino Caucus, Texas Association Against Sexual Assault (TAASA), Futures without Violence, Mi Familia Vota, the University of Texas School of Public Health, Global Girls Prep, HBO and more.
Melissa’s personal mission is centered on amplifying voices and connecting resources to diverse communities. Melissa was a 2019 Movement Mujeres Fellow and ColorComms Fellow. In her spare time Melissa enjoys spending time with her loved ones, practicing yoga, traveling, and gardening.
